A cat lady is being celebrated for her “genius” idea for traveling with her pet.
TikToker @wifiadventure shows the adventures of a cat named Wi-Fi, and his owner travels with him across countries — even taking him on planes.
In her latest video, she shows how she brought a litter box for the cat to use on a flight to Japan.
The video, which amassed 1 million views and 109,300 likes as of Friday morning, had the text “Challenge #1: ‘Use the litter box on the flight to Japan.'”
“It took some time for Wi-Fi to stretch and get adjusted to how loud the bathrooms are. The changing table was helpful because the ground is the loudest part & he felt trapped (cats like high places),” the caption read.
“We had our portable litter box, bag, scoop, crate, and of course the litter. Who knew learning how to take my cat to Japan could be so simple.”
Many people in the comments praised the woman for the use of the litter box, in addition to how well her feline friend behaved on the plane.
“Such a gooooooood kitty,” one person commented.
“HES SO BRAVE! HES WELL BEHAVED!!!” another said.
“Awww he went to the bathroom,” someone wrote. “so cute!!!”
“Wow this is cool!!!! Cats are so damn smart. You’re doing a great job with him,” a user commented.
“This is impressive!” one exclaimed.
Others weren’t so happy about the idea.
“really cool to use the bathroom afterwards if you’re allergic,” someone snarked.
“Maybe put it on the ground?!?!?” someone questioned, while another person chimed in that they also use a portable litter tray, but they “put it on the floor, not where baby goes.”
“Good idea but all I can think about is the next baby being changed on that table lol,” one said.
Some people were also surprised that she was allowed to bring the cat into the cabin.
Policies on cats on planes vary for each airline, though most airlines require a valid health certificate for travel from a veterinarian in order for your cat to fly with you, according to VCA Animal Hospitals.
However, international flights are trickier. Some airlines, such as Southwest, don’t allow pets on international flights.
When it comes to cats using the bathroom, many sites and pet blogs, including Daily Paws and VCA Animal Hospitals, recommend avoiding feeding the morning of travel to avoid nausea, vomiting or cat feces.
They also say to line the cat’s carrier with an absorbent pad, such as a puppy potty pad, to soak up any accidents.
There was no mention of portable litter boxes, though many commenters on TikTok said they also utilize those on planes.
