Will Smith is putting his phone on silent. The actor joked about not checking his phone amid his estranged wife Jada Pinkett Smith’s book tour, where she recently revealed that the pair have actually been separated for the past seven years.
“Notifications off :)” the “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” alum, 55, captioned an Instagram video on Sunday.
In the clip, Smith is resting on a boat, and later stands near the ocean and smiles for the camera.
“Fun fact about me I can take a nap almost anywhere,” he wrote.
Pinkett Smith, 52, reacted to the post, adding two laughing emojis in the comment section.
The actress has been making the rounds promoting her book, “Worthy,” which hits bookshelves on Tuesday, Oct. 17. She opened up about Smith’s famous Oscars slap with Chris Rock (which she initially thought was a “skit”), how the pair do not have a prenup — and why exactly they haven’t officially divorced yet.
“Still trying to figure out between the two of us how to be in partnership. … In regards to, how do we present that to people? We hadn’t figured that out,” she told Today show’s Hoda Kotb, adding that they weren’t “ready” to share their marriage woes with the public.
As the years went by, she and Will were “both kind of just still stuck in our fantasy of what we thought the other person should be.”
Their marriage became “fractured” in 2016 and they “were just exhausted with trying.” She moved out, they’ve lived separately for years, and they were already six years separated when the Academy Awards scandal took place.
“I made a promise that there will never be a reason for us to get a divorce. We will work through … whatever. I just haven’t been able to break that promise,” she told Kotb.
The couple married in 1997 and share kids, Jaden, 25, Willow, 22, and Trey, 30. (Will welcomed son Trey, 30, with ex wife Sheree Zampino.)
Over the weekend, the “King Richard” actor broke his silence over Pinkett Smith’s revelations in an email with the New York Times.
“When you’ve been with someone for more than half of your life, a sort of emotional blindness sets in,” Smith wrote, according to the Times article published Saturday. “And you can all too easily lose your sensitivity to their hidden nuances and subtle beauties.”
He added that her comments “kind of woke [him] up” and she’s more “resilient, clever and compassionate than [he’d] understood.”
