Things are getting royally tense.
Netflix dropped new photos from Season 6 of “The Crown” Monday, which marks the end of the show’s reign on the streaming site.
The final season, which has been broken into two parts, will span from 1997 to 2005 with Part 1 focusing on the “relationship blossoming between Princess Diana and Dodi Fayed before a fateful car journey has devastating consequences.”
“Prince William tries to integrate back into life at Eton in the wake of his mother’s death as the monarchy has to ride the wave of public opinion,” continues the official description. “As she reaches her Golden Jubilee, the queen reflects on the future of the monarchy with the marriage of Charles and Camilla and the beginnings of a new royal fairytale in William and Kate.”
Actress Elizabeth Debicki will reprise her role as Princess Diana alongside Dominic West as Prince Charles. The pair took over the roles from Emma Corrin and Josh O’Connor, who played the royals in Seasons 3 and 4.
Debicki recalled filming Diana’s final days as simply “devastating.”
“I think it’s a really unique challenge as an actor, to portray those days,” said the “Great Gatsby” actress, 33, to Netflix’s Tudum in April. “I really just trusted in Peter’s emotional blueprint that he created for us to follow. It’s his interpretation and I think it made emotional sense to me, so I clung to that. Because, obviously, it’s devastating, and it’s fraught and we can never know.”
Imelda Staunton is slated to return as Queen Elizabeth II with Jonathan Pryce as Prince Philip and Lesley Manville as Princess Margaret.
This season of “The Crown” also features the debut of Rufus Kampa and Fflyn Edwards as a young Prince William and Prince Harry, respectively.
Netflix’s depiction of the former Princess of Wales’ death has already stirred up controversy.
“To be going back to Paris and turning Diana’s final days and hours into a drama feels very uncomfortable. Finally, some of the crew members are pushing back,” sources told the Sun in October 2022.
The streaming site will also reportedly re-create Prince Harry’s infamous Nazi uniform scandal.
In 2005, the Duke of Sussex attended Olympic showjumper Richard Meade’s “native and colonial” dress party where the royal donned the uniform complete with a swastika armband.
The former royal then claimed in his bombshell novel “Spare” that his brother and then-girlfriend, Kate Middleton, encouraged him to wear the controversial outfit.
Part 1 of “The Crown” will premiere Nov. 16, and Part 2 will premiere Dec. 14.
